Tampa Bay Oncology Center has the most advanced technology of any cancer center in the Tampa Bay area. We also have the best trained staff in the area. Our Medical Director, Dr. John West, a Board Certified Radiation Oncologist, has been practicing in the Tampa area for over 25 years. We are also the only private cancer center to have a full time, board certified Medical Physicist; we feel this is critical for the advanced technology we use. We treat all kinds of cancer but with our advanced technology, specifically image fusion and IMRT, we can treat cancer when others cannot. Our treatment modalities also reduce side effects over conventional type treatments. For example, typical treatment of head and neck cancers may cure the cancer but leave the patient with little or no saliva. With IMRT we can spare the parotid glands (the saliva producing organs). We have successfully treated many patients while they retained the ability to produce saliva and hence continue to taste their food. We also have a very active prostate cancer program. We have performed thousands implants. This is also where having a full time Medical Physicist on staff is essential, we repeat the seed plan during the procedure, because we have found that significant changes occur between the preplan and the actual procedure. Our results are unrivaled. |
